Poetry #469
(published January 14, 2010)
That Man at the Bar
by Jonathan Hayes
with a black patch
over his left eye

who ordered an altar

had the bartender
light a white votive candle

and tear out the obit
from today's sf chronicle

she then mixed and placed
a cranberry cape codder

by the open door
to Columbus avenue

where after two gin and tonics
warren walked out,

leaving his teddy bear behind.
