Poetry #141
(published July 3, 2003)
Birch Bark Creel
by Marcy Jarvis

My one, true find.
I didn't appreciate you enough
at the time.

(I was in my twenties — forgive me)
for giving you over
for sixty bucks clover

plus two rabbit eared chairs
thrown in.
They sold you in Stowe

for amounts I don't know
saying you were of origin —
Indian.

I know better.
You were Mr. Kileen's handiwork —
Sweet and clean.

No less noble
but an unimpressive provenance to some,
I suppose.
